Prayer changes things. The prayers of the righteous sincere and without ceasing accomplish much. It is transformative contact with god and a communication gateway to the divine. The importance of prayer which provides "feet" to your good intent, builds a spiritual shelter and ignites positive action can not be overemphasized. The people of Japan need all the help we can give them. If you can't get there yet to lend a hand in person, remember you can always pray.
You might look at prayer as your spiritual "tweet" or social network connection with the divine the creator of the universe who makes anything possible or bearable through faith, mercy and prayer.
"...and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective."- James 5:16
Have a prayerful and productive weekend.
Special Note:
I began this effort as a way of contributing to the healing of the shattering situation in Japan which has literally torn and turned that country upside down. I did not want to be clogged up or bogged down by red tape or the delays and confusion that can sometimes result with indirect conduits of communication.
I drew the "Prayers for Japan" graphic as the first in a series of creative contemplative prayers in action. The P in prayer is topped by an umbrella of light, a spiritual shelter. The umbrella's arm has a bow of ribbon near the word "for" which also serves as a button for the light shield at the top and an anchor for Japan. It signifies that prayer will provide both a shelter and an anchor for the people of Japan. I hope you will support this effort which is my way of "caring" about the situation. Please buy and wear my "Prayers for Japan" t-shirts as a creative prayer and to demonstrate your caring and support for the people of Japan. The link for t-shirts and art prints will be posted soon.

Many people want to help out, but other than money or being an aid worker, there is another way to help by sending words of support and hope. You can send your message online to school children and emergency workers in Japan via Hope Letters at http://hopeletters.wordpress.com/. Hope Letters will translate them into Japanese and deliver them to local organizations for posting/broadcasting (when it is practical and effective to do so). Help give hope!
